Kaz and Jim look forward to welcoming you to share our beautiful slice of the Charente, second sunniest part of France. After diverse careers in the customer/police service industries respectively we scoured Western Europe for the perfect venue for our dream of relocating to the sun and discovered it here.
Having spent numerous nights during our search in varying qualities of accommodation we are passionate about providing the very highest level of guest satisfaction possible and will do all in our power to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, if there is something you need please just ask and your wish is our command!
‘20 Grand Rue’ was built circa 1835 as the ‘Gendarmerie National’, (the cells are now for leisure use only), it was used as the Gendarmerie until about 1910 and then the house was used by the area Notaire. During WWII it was commandeered by the German forces and the local commander actually lived here.
It was converted to a private house around 1955 and then became empty in the 1980’s and left to the elements. There were several changes of ownership with no work being done until purchased by the previous owners in early 2004.
They tastefully renovated the house trying to keep to the original layout as much as possible whilst introducing all the necessities required by the weary traveller such as en-suite facilities and tea and coffee in all the large airy bedrooms and converting the large conference room to a comfortable guest lounge/dining room.
‘Vingt Grand Rue’ has now been established 8 years and is the ideal location to recharge your batteries whether simply passing through or lingering to enjoy the Charentais culture, produce, delicacies and idyllic scenery, we look forward to the new season and to meeting new friends……
We are sure you will enjoy your stay.
